Apprentice Textile Finishing Specialist

Overview

The ‘Apprentice Textile Finishing Specialist’ will be trained to understand how to use the Finishing machinery to ensure that production is achieved and fabric is finished to the required specification.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand how each of the finishing machines operates and the processes involved.
  • Use the SAP system to track production orders, enter new finishing routes and where necessary make amendments to specifications.
  • Record and interpret production data and produce specialist technical reports.
  • Utilise the plan to ensure the efficient flow of production, use of machinery and allocation of staff.
  • Work with the Quality Team to understand, identify and rectify production issues.
  • Liaise with the Dyehouse and Mending departments to ensure greige pieces are scoured and prepared ready for their dye-slot.
  • Support the planning of machine downtime using the production schedule.
  • Order replacement spare parts where necessary to ensure production continuity.
  • Contribute to a safe working environment through adherence to company health and safety rules and procedures.

  • Attend and complete L4 Textile Technical Specialist apprenticeship.
  • Overview of the products manufactured and the different finishing routes.
  • Understanding how each of the finishing machines operates and the processes involved – creating standard operating procedures.
  • Understanding the preliminary processes – yarn / cloth production.
  • Preparing pieces for processing.
  • Controlling the efficiency of production.
  • Quality control procedures.
  • Maintenance of machinery.
  • Health and safety within the mill.

Desired Key Skills

  • Interest in science with good grades in GCSE, possible A’ Level would be desirable.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
  • Interest in textile processes.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage tasks in order to meet deadlines.
