Multi Skilled Yarn Operative
As a Multi-Skilled Yarn Operative, you will play a key role in the efficient operation, maintenance, and monitoring of machinery across the Yarn Production Department—including Carding, Fettling, Winding, and Spinning. You will ensure high standards of product quality, safety, and housekeeping, while proactively contributing to continuous improvement and team success.
This role demands a proactive, flexible, and collaborative approach. You will work closely with colleagues to meet production targets, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain a safe and efficient working environment. Your ability to take ownership of tasks, support others, and maintain high standards will be critical to achieving the best possible outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
General Duties
- Operate, monitor, and maintain textile machinery across Carding, Fettling, Winding, and Spinning processes.
- Perform machine set-ups, routine maintenance, and cleaning to ensure optimal performance.
- Maintain accurate records, conduct quality checks, and report issues promptly.
- Uphold health, safety, and housekeeping standards at all times.
- Collaborate with team members to meet production goals and resolve issues.
- Any other reasonable duties as requested by management.
Carding
- Safely operate carding machinery, set up jobs in SAP, and manage raw materials.
- Monitor machine performance, conduct inspections, and perform quality testing.
- Carry out doffing, waste management, oiling, greasing, and cleaning tasks.
- Maintain consistent machine output and contribute to a clean, safe environment.
Fettling
- Prepare and maintain carding machinery for smooth operation.
- Conduct thorough clean-downs and fettling using specialised equipment.
- Perform pre-start checks and ensure machines are ready for efficient operation.
- Accurately record waste and maintain cleanliness of all components.
Winding
- Operate Savio, Faddis, and Schlafhorst winding systems to produce high-quality yarn.
- Manage jobs in SAP, adjust yarn settings, and generate labels.
- Perform full rewind processes, quality checks, and waste disposal.
- Ensure consistent output and report any quality concerns promptly.
Spinning
- Set up and operate spinning machinery to meet production specifications.
- Adjust machine settings, perform quality tests, and maintain accurate records.
- Conduct routine maintenance, including cleaning, oiling, and part replacement.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety across all spinning frames.
- Experience in textile or yarn production across multiple processes
- Strong technical and mechanical aptitude with hands-on machine operation skills.
- Proactive problem-solving mindset and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively in a team and adapt to changing priorities.
- Knowledge of SAP or similar ERP systems
