As the 153rd Open Championship returns to Northern Ireland this July, we’re proud to showcase our involvement in the recently opened Portrush Adelphi Hotel, located just a short walk from the Royal Portrush Golf Club.

In collaboration with Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts and AJ Capital Partners, we played a key role in creating the heritage-inspired textiles that helped bring this unique coastal property to life using premium upholstery fabric designed, woven, and finished in Yorkshire, England.

Tailored Design, Woven for Heritage

Nestled on Northern Ireland’s dramatic Causeway Coast, Portrush Adelphi opened its doors in April 2025 as the sixth hotel in the Marine & Lawn Hotels & Resorts portfolio. The brand is renowned for offering distinctive experiences to their guests, celebrating the history and legacy of their hotel locations by blending old-world charm with modern comfort.

As a trusted British contract fabric supplier, our bespoke wool designs helped bring that narrative to life. The interiors team at AJ Capital Partners approached us with a clear brief: to create a tartan-inspired plaid while adhering to the durability standards of a high-traffic hospitality space.

We worked closely with their teams across London and Chicago, developing a made-to-order wool fabric design that translated their vision using our trusted Heritage quality. After detailed collaboration and several iterations, the final pattern was woven to specification, finished, and supplied.

Bespoke Tartan, Built for Performance

As a natural fibre, wool offers a unique combination of aesthetic and practical benefits that make it exceptionally well suited for luxury hotel environments. Its breathable structure helps regulate temperature, enhancing guest comfort across seasons, while its inherent elasticity means it resists creasing and retains its shape, even under frequent use.

Beyond its performance, wool contributes to a richer sensory experience. Its soft handle and depth of colour bring texture and warmth to a space, complementing the layered, heritage-inspired design of Portrush Adelphi.

Meredith, Senior Interior Designer, AJ Capital Partners:

“We’ve loved working with Moon Fabrics over the years, as the quality of running line and custom tartan patterns are unparalleled.

It’s great to have a partnership that allows us to create custom patterns in tandem with Moon, so we can honour the history and locale, which is pivotal to the Marine & Lawn brand. For the Adelphi Hotel, we worked with Moon on creating a pattern used for nightstand covers, headboards, and bed skirts – all which had to meet fire codes and hold up in a commercial environment.”

British-Made Wool Textiles, Designed to Endure

This project is a clear example of our expertise in supporting designers with bespoke wool fabric development—offering both aesthetic freedom and technical support from concept to final weave and finish.

The result is a personalised, high-performance contract fabric, woven and finished in our vertical Yorkshire mill, and designed to enhance the visual storytelling of a heritage property. Whether developing a custom interior fabric from scratch or sourcing from our extensive archive, we are proud to be a trusted supplier of wool fabric for interiors.

As The Open begins at the Royal Portrush Golf Club, we’re proud to see British-made wool textiles playing a small part in the experience of this extraordinary setting.
