Our Story

Our story is a celebration of the British textile industry

With over 185 years of design and textile expertise, Abraham Moon & Sons is one of the last remaining vertical wool mills in the UK. Specialising in crafting premium wool fabrics at our historic Yorkshire mill, where every stage of production takes place on a single site. As both manufacturer and supplier, we are proud to offer authentic British-made wool cloth, delivered directly from our mill to customers around the world.

Woven Through Generations

Founded in 1837 in Guiseley, West Yorkshire, Abraham Moon & Sons has been crafting fine wool fabrics for over 185 years. What began as a small family business has grown into one of the UK’s last remaining vertical woollen mills, yet our focus remains the same: a dedication to quality, craftsmanship and the people behind it all.

Our history is closely connected to the heritage of British textile manufacturing. From supplying cloth for military uniforms during both World Wars to becoming a recognised name in textile design, Moon has continued to evolve through generations of skilled makers, carrying forward the knowledge, care and creativity that define our fabrics today.

At our Yorkshire mill, we continue to spin, dye, weave and finish every metre of cloth on one site, combining natural fibres, traditional techniques and modern manufacturing innovation. This unique approach, shaped by both heritage and the expertise of our team, continues to define Abraham Moon & Sons today.

From Fibre to Finished Fabric

Every Moon fabric begins and ends its journey at our Yorkshire mill. As one of the few remaining vertical mills in the UK, we carry out every stage of production on a single site, from dyeing and blending the raw fibre to weaving and finishing the final cloth.

This integrated approach allows us to maintain close control over quality, consistency and finish at every stage of the process. Across the mill, skilled teams bring experience, precision and technical knowledge to each fabric we produce, combining traditional craftsmanship with modern manufacturing expertise.

By overseeing production in-house, we are able to work closely with customers across apparel, interiors and accessories while maintaining the standards and flexibility required of modern textile manufacturing. It is an approach shaped by generations of experience and a continued commitment to British woollen craftsmanship.

Specialists in Wool & Natural Fibres

Wool is at the centre of everything we do. As specialists in both woollen and worsted cloth, we are committed to working with high-quality natural fibres valued for their performance, durability and timeless character.

We source wool from trusted suppliers around the world, with a strong focus on responsible sourcing, traceability and animal welfare. From fine merino qualities and Shetland-type yarns to British wool, each fibre is carefully selected for its handle, appearance and suitability for the finished fabric.

Whether spun at our Yorkshire mill or sourced through long-standing supply partners, every yarn is chosen to meet the standards required for our apparel, interior and accessory collections. The integrity of the raw material remains fundamental to the quality and performance of the finished cloth.

We are proud to support organisations including Campaign for Wool, UKFT and British Wool, while continuing to explore sourcing opportunities that support British farming and textile manufacturing expertise.

Sustainable by Nature

Sustainability is considered throughout every stage of our manufacturing process. As a mill specialising in natural fibre textiles, we focus on producing fabrics designed for longevity, using renewable materials alongside carefully managed production processes.

Wool remains central to this approach. As a renewable, biodegradable and durable natural fibre, it supports the creation of fabrics and products intended to be used and valued for years to come. Across our collections, we continue to work with natural fibres and blends selected for both performance and longevity.

Our approach to sustainability is practical and long term, with ongoing investment across the mill focused on improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact. This includes initiatives around energy use, water management and responsible sourcing throughout our supply chain, supporting the future of British textile manufacturing while maintaining the standards expected of our fabrics and products.

Tailored Service

Whether supplying a single fabric order or supporting larger bespoke developments, we work closely with customers across apparel, interiors and accessories to provide a service suited to each project and application.

Alongside our seasonal collections and established designs, we also support custom developments, combining technical knowledge, manufacturing expertise and flexible production capabilities at our Yorkshire mill.

Every order is approached with the same focus on quality, consistency and attention to detail, reflecting the standards and craftsmanship that have defined Abraham Moon & Sons for generations.
