FAQs

This page brings together key information across ordering, sampling, delivery and returns for both trade and direct customers. Whether you are specifying fabrics for a project or ordering for personal use, the guidance below is designed to make the process straightforward. It covers how to request samples, how to order fabric by the metre, and what to expect once your order has been placed.

As all fabric is cut to order at our Yorkshire mill, we always recommend requesting a sample before placing a full order. This allows you to assess colour, texture and suitability in situ. For this reason, we are unable to accept returns on cut fabric.

If you cannot find the information you need, our team is on hand to help with product guidance, sampling and order enquiries. Get in touch by emailing customerservice@moons.co.uk

How do i order fabric samples?

Fabric samples are available for most apparel and interior fabrics. If you would like to order a fabric sample, you are able to do this via the website. Navigate to the product page of the fabric sample you would like to order, add sample to basket and checkout. Please note that we charge £1 per sample, the cost of shipping for samples is free.

Can i buy fabric directly from Moon?

Yes, you can now purchase fabrics directly through our website, available by the metre without a trade account.

Can I order from outside the UK?

Our online store currently accepts orders for delivery within the United Kingdom only.

For international enquiries, please contact our Customer Services team at customerservice@moons.co.uk and we will be happy to assist.

Do i need a trade account to order?

No, fabrics are now available for direct purchase online. Trade customers can apply for an account for access to the full range and trade services. To apply please complete the Trade Account Enquiry Form on the Contact Us Page.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

The minimum order per fabric is 0.5m with additional lengths available in 50cm increments.

Why should i order a fabric sample first?

We always recommend ordering a sample before purchasing fabric as we are unable to offer refunds once the fabric has been cut to order. Ordering a sample first will allow you to check colour, texture and suitability in your own space, as screen representation can vary.

How long do samples take to arrive?

Samples are typically dispatched within a few working days. Delivery times may vary slightly depending on demand and location. If you have not received your samples within 14 working days of placing the order, please contact customersupport@moons.co.uk for more information.

Will my fabric be sent as one continuous length?

Yes, where multiple metres are ordered, fabric will be supplied as a continuous cut wherever possible.

Can i return fabric i change my mind?

No, all fabric is cut to order and therefore we are unable to accept returns once it has been cut. For this reason we strongly advise ordering a sample before placing a full fabric order.

What if there is an issue with my order?

Upon delivery of fabric, please inspect your items when you receive them prior to cutting. If your order arrives damaged or faulty please let us know within 48 hours of delivery and we will resolve this as quickly as possible. For faulty or incorrect fabric, please email customerservice@moons.co.uk.

What information is available before i buy?

Each product page includes key technical information to help you make an informed decision. This will vary slightly depending on the product type. For fabrics, this typically includes composition, fabric width, fabric weight and, where relevant, durability (Martindale) and pattern repeat. For accessories, product pages include dimensions alongside composition and general product details.

All available specifications are clearly listed on each product page.

How much fabric do I need for my project?

The amount of fabric required will depend on your intended application, the dimensions of your project and whether the fabric has a pattern repeat.

As a manufacturer, we are unable to provide exact fabric quantities for individual projects. We recommend consulting your upholsterer, curtain maker or interior designer before placing an order.

If you are working with a patterned fabric, additional fabric may be required to allow for pattern matching.

What is a Martindale rating?

Martindale is an industry-standard test used to measure a fabric's resistance to abrasion and everyday wear.

The higher the Martindale figure, the more durable the fabric is likely to be in use. Martindale ratings can be found on individual product pages where applicable.

What does pattern repeat mean?

Pattern repeat refers to the distance before a woven design repeats itself across the fabric.

This measurement is important when calculating fabric requirements for curtains, upholstery and other projects, as additional fabric may be needed to ensure patterns align correctly.

Pattern repeat information is provided on relevant product pages.

How do colours appear online compared to real life?

We make every effort to ensure colours are represented as accurately as possible on our website. However, colours can vary between screens and devices.

For this reason, we always recommend ordering a fabric sample before placing a full order, allowing you to assess the colour, texture and suitability of the fabric in your own environment.

What is the difference between FR and non-FR fabrics?

FR stands for Flame Retardant. These fabrics have been treated or manufactured to meet specific fire performance requirements and are commonly used in commercial, hospitality and other contract environments where fire regulations apply.

Non-FR fabrics are intended for applications where flame-retardant performance is not required.

If you are unsure which option is suitable for your project, we recommend consulting your upholsterer, specifier or project contractor before ordering.

Will an FR fabric be identical to the standard version?

Due to the flame-retardant treatment process, slight variations in colour, handle and fabric weight may occur when compared to the standard non-FR version.

Whilst every effort is made to ensure consistency, these variations are a normal part of the finishing process and should be taken into consideration when specifying fabrics.
