Textile Technician (Fettler)

Abraham Moon & Sons is looking for an experienced and hard-working Textile Technician to join our yarn production team within our woollen Mill in Guiseley, Leeds.

Working alongside the Yarn Production Manager, the successful candidate will work as part of a team to provide an efficient service within the Yarn Production department with the purpose of maximising operating efficiencies.

Rate of Pay: £11.25 per/hour

Key Responsibilities

The Textile Technician is accountable for maintaining a key piece of machinery, the Carding machine, so that it is fit to operate at maximum efficiency.

The Carding machine is one of the most important machines in the Yarn Production process; it separates and straightens sheep’s wool so that it can be used to make yarn. Carding is essential to ensuring that the products we produce are of the highest quality.

The Textile Technician’s priority job is to remove any excess material from the Carding machinery so that it is completely cleaned and ready for the next batch of wool to pass through it.

Skills & Experience Required

First and foremost, we hire for attitude and train for skill. We look for people who want to learn and have an enthusiastic and positive attitude.

Attention to detail is vital in order to maintain the machinery to the standard that we will expect. Part of the maintenance is automated, and so you’ll have to closely observe as the machine undergoes a procedure of removing the excess material.

There is also a manual aspect to this role which can often be physically demanding, as you will be required to handle maintenance equipment and clean the remaining excess material from the Carding machine.

Personal Qualities

Safety is hugely important at Abraham Moon & Sons. We are proud of our impressive machinery, but it also comes with risks, and so anyone working within our Mill must have a safety-first attitude at all times.

Your primary role is a Textile Technician, but we will also expect you to work towards being multi-skilled within the Yarn Production department, developing spinning and winding skills.

Being a team player is also really important, as you are playing a key role within a wider production process. It’s amazing to watch the journey as sheep wool becomes a beautiful piece of woven fabric and we need every person within the process to play their part.

We are an international brand with a long-standing reputation for innovation, design and premium quality, producing authentic wool fabrics and accessories for leading fashion brands and interior designers worldwide.

As one of the select few in the UK who can perform all processes at a single site, we boast remarkable versatility and the ability to control each process to meet our exacting standards. Each of these processes requires incredible expertise and finesse, which is where our fantastic, diverse team come into play who champion a culture that encourages leadership, creativity, innovation, and learning, interacting as one team, irrespective of position or level.

Even after almost two centuries in business, we remain incredibly ambitious with big plans for growth and expansion. End-to-end technology integration, growing new routes to market, and increasing brand awareness are just some of the exciting new projects in the pipeline, with plenty more to come.
