Quality Control Laboratory Technician

Overview

To take the lead across all testing activity within the Quality Control Laboratory, working as a key member of a small team in ensuring that vigorous standards of quality are maintained.

Support the Yarn Testing Laboratory with the testing of internal yarn production and IQC process externally supplied yarns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation and testing of textiles in their various states from fibre through to fabric.
  • Grading tested specimens.
  • Preparing reports and concluding pass/fail decisions in accordance with internal or customer specifications.
  • Regularly reviewing the testing schedule to ensure that workloads are planned efficiently with the resources available.
  • Maintaining testing trackers.
  • Participation in inter-lab testing and comparisons to validate competency in internal testing abilities.
  • Monitoring batch-to-batch continuity and escalating any inconsistencies.
  • Data analysis, trend spotting and raising non-compliances with key stakeholders.
  • Support the Quality Manager with investigations into Quality queries and complaints.
  • Ensuring Health & Safety requirements and SOPs are continually adhered to.
  • General housekeeping of the lab environment.

Skills & Competencies

  • Extensive experience in the core areas of fabric textile testing; colour fastness, stability, physical performance, and an understanding of the key aspects of yarn testing.
  • Precision in cutting fabric samples to set measurements in preparation for testing procedures, and good presentational skills for mounting samples for visual assessment.
  • Excellent knowledge of woven fabric construction.
  • A keen eye for detail and accuracy in all aspects of work.
  • Strong ability to plan, coordinate and deliver work to tight deadlines supported by robust organisational, analytical and communication skills.
  • Proactive team player with strong customer service understanding and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications.
  • Experience working in accordance with a Quality Management System, preferably ISO 17025.
  • A degree level/formal qualification in Textiles or related subject.
