Apprentice Multi-Skilled Cloth Production Operative
Overview
You will work alongside experienced Colleagues, learning the technical craft of cloth production, including twisting-in and weaving, whilst earning your Level 2 Textile Manufacturing Operative qualification at the Textile Centre of Excellence. Being a valued member of the team you will contribute to the quality and efficiency, ensuring Health & Safety compliance. The role plays a key role in preserving Abraham Moon & Sons craftsmanship and heritage while building the foundations of a skilled career.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in minimising loom downtime by supporting job changes, weft changes, piece felling and weaving, by working alongside tuners, weavers and twisters
- Learn to understand and interpret peg plans, drafts etc
- Learn weaving principles including set up, operating and monitoring
- Recognising faults, and how to respond to these quickly to avoid long running issues and troubleshooting
- Ensure fabric meets design, patterns and quality
- Assist and check lease bands, rods, warp sheets and ensure all ends are in the lease and warped to pattern
- Support setting up drawing in and knotting machines, ensuring correct picking needle size
- Maintain a safe working environment by strictly adhering to company Health & Safety rules and procedures
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping
- Assist with safe movement of materials and finished pieces

Textile Manufacturing Operative Apprenticeship Level 2 – Textile Centre of Excellence, Huddersfield
Course includes:
- Preparing for textile manufacturing operations
- Operating machinery and equipment following Standard Operational procedures (SOP)
- Complete Quality Assurance activities
- Prepare materials
- Contribute to maintaining the workplace environment (H&S)
- Conduct basic maintenance
- Complete work records
- Contribute to continuous improvement
- Maths & English level 2
- Interest in mechanics, engineering
