Dyehouse Lab Manager / Colourist

Abraham Moon & Sons is looking for an experienced and ambitious Design Team Leader to manage the delivery of the projects and workload of the Design Team for all three product areas of manufacture at our vertical woollen mill in Guiseley. 

To assist the Dyehouse Manager in all Lab management aspects and daily operations regarding colour, while supporting the business's Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) including: Health & Safety (H&S), quality, service and cost - upholding and communicate all Moons values.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for calculating and generating recipes for dyeing wool and blended fibres.

 

  • Responsible for making up chemical and dye solutions for lab dyes.

 

  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure quality outputs are maintained.

 

  • Operate and understand Datacolor Spectrophotometer and Match Prediction tools.

 

  • Operation of Lab dyeing equipment in line with company SOPs.

 

  • Knowledge of recipe correction/additions using visual perception and Datacolor equipment.

 

  • Problem solving skills using data evaluation and cause – effect techniques.

 

  • Enable upscaling from lab to bulk production recipes.

 

  • Knowledge of bulk operational machinery (Loose stock, Package and MCS Jets) an advantage.

 

  • Fault reporting of inconsistencies to managers/directors as and when needed.

  • Be responsible for Lab dips examples before it makes it through to full dyehouse operations.

 

  • Liaise with external suppliers to create a robust quality process that adheres to internal/external shade standards, yarn testing and compliance and communicate with suppliers on colour failures and improvements.

 

  • Develop dyehouse shade standards to deliver a standardised shade/yarn testing across internal/ external processes.

 

  • Lead Colourfastness project to investigate, report and improve results.

 

  • Responsibility and maintenance for the yarn standards and colour library for both internal and external yarns and piece dyes.

 

  • Work with the Design Team on commercial approval of borderline colours for certain production jobs.

 

  • Development of new yarn and piece dye shades in collaboration with the Design team as and when needed through lab dips and in-house testing procedures.

 

  • Work with Design, Blending and Yarn production teams on matching and creating new yarn blend colours using an in-house Mesdan testing line.

 

  • Make decisions based on specialist knowledge.

 

  • Datacolour Spectrophotometer/match prediction knowledge is essential.

Work alignment

 

  • Excellent knowledge and experience in colour management and shade approval.

 

  • Textile colouration qualification is an advantage.

 

  • Excellent eye for colour.

 

  • Datacolor/match prediction knowledge is required.

 

  • Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.

 

  • Experience with ERP systems.

 

  • Give and receive constructive feedback.

 

  • Plan lab workload and output efficiently.
