Woolmark: 50 Years Strong
The Woolmark brand has been providing people with the assurance of quality since it’s inception in 1964. This year, the famous logo consisting of five black bands forming a skein of wool turns fifty years old, having been applied to over five billion products worldwide. Truly amazing stuff.
As a fully-fledged Woolmark licensee ourselves, we thought we’d introduce you to the finer details surrounding ‘That Finer Feeling’.
The Woolmark brands are split into three categories (as above). These help buyers differentiate when it comes to buying woollen products, regulating the wool industry as a whole and keeping standards as high as possible. All Abraham Moon fabrics and Bronte by Moon accessories bear the traditional Woolmark logo for 100% pure new wool.
While the Woolmark itself is turning 50, The Woolmark Company has been with us for far longer. Initially founded in 1937 as the International Wool Secretariat (IWS), the company underwent many name changes and mergers while continuing to guarantee the authenticity of wool from offices around the world.
This logo is one of the most globally recognised and revered, not only be consumers but also by design professionals. In fact it was even voted by prominent advertising and design magazine Creative Review as the top logo of all time, beating Michelin, British Rail and Penguin Books in the process.
To qualify for this prestigious mark, products must undergo a sequence of vigorous tests to ensure everything is up to standard. These include tensile strength, pilling (abrasion resistance), and colour fastness (exposure vs colour change). meaning you can always count on Woolmark to only endorse the very best.
